Palm Heel Strike vs Fist

There is always differing oppinions in the differences of palmheel and punching.

This will help shed some light in referense to self defense. Until I started to train in close combat situations. I didn't quite understand the differences.

Growing up in fighting fist were always use because that is what we knew. So as I grew up as I am sure most do without any guidance a fight was always fists and on every occasion I can think of either my hands or my opponents hands got messed up.

You see the beauty of the palm heel strike is that the palm of our hands are very resilient to blunt force just to see what I mean hit the closest brick wall with your fist and then with your palm. Hows that for a difference? That is one of the biggest reasons it is so effective for a smaller person to use against an attacker.

You can use the edge of hand as a chop just another opption. For pressure points use your hand and forearm with elbow for mass destruction.

As for the punch not to say it is not a effective weapon because it is. Punching to the forehead and breaking your hand just may have lost you the incounter.

In the same situation above If you would have used the palm heel strike it sould have throwen his head back and opened the throat for an edge of hand strike or elbow smash that could put an end to the situation.

So understand that if you decide to use the punch rather than a palm heel or edge of hand you run the risk of injury and the use of a hand. Will you last long if that happens? Do you really want that being the deciding factor.

The technique you use is not as important as conditioning your body. It can be as simple as hitting the punching bag in the garage or grabbing a partner and using some focus mitts.

Your best option would be to find a school with accredited instructors (Hey I happen to know a few world wide even).

Building confidence and stress reliefe plus having fun doing it will happen if you train in a reputable school. I will point you in the right direction just contact me.

Martial Arts: Learn Akido

The Aikido way is to align body and mind with the spirit or ki and it said that the only way to be able to do this is through cultivating a relaxed state.  Many people think that all martial arts are about aggression but Akido was founded by Ueshiba who was very much a pacifist and wanted to end aggression.  When you read this article you will certainly want to know more about Aikido.

Due to the dynamic nature of Aikido, most experts say that there are no definite "styles" or "techniques" in practicing the martial art.

You may have heard of the word dojo before but not known what it means.  Well, it's a Japanese word for training structure used for martial arts.  A truly authentic and traditional Aikido dojo is used only as a place for formal and symbolic gatherings, and is rarely used a place to actually train. When people train Akido in a traditional way, they should actually go outside.

A modern day Aikido dojo however loses most of its formality.  Most of the time, there is no distinction from an Aikido dojo to the actual place of training and practice. Generally speaking, the two are considered to one and the same.

When people trained under the Great Teacher Ueshiba, the students were encouraged to spread the tenets of Aikido and create their own dojos.  Aside from encouraging them to set up dojos and share the knowledge he taught, he also inspired them to develop their own styles and interpretations as long as these techniques adhere to the basic principle of aikido, "not fighting force with force."

As mentioned before, Aikido is not about aggression, instead it's more about self-defense. The purpose isn't to do with injury but more about preventing the other person from doing harm. This is perhaps why there is rarely a weapon used in the sport. The martial arts is made up mostly of movements and techniques. In saying that, there are those advanced students who move onto using certain weapons. Weapons that are used in aikido are the tanto, the wooden jo and the bokken.  Aikido is an amazing martial art that everyone can benefit from.
